More outdoor and active adventures due for the week ahead. Watch this space..... ( We are blessed!) Níos fearr le Chéile!
Thank you to the second class pupils who, on Monday, taught us an amazing dance, outside in the beautiful sunshine. We loved it! You are super dance instructors! Well done to all who took part in our dance lesson, led by our second class dance mentors. We also, collectively ran 200 laps! We have some stamina now, after a year of running the lap of the map. Maith sibh!
On Tuesday we celebrated Sport's Day in Syddan C.L.G.

Podcasts to support Comprehension, Language, Imagination and to feed Curiosity.
Our Genre for the month of June is Narrative. We will be encouraging the children to listen to podcasts for information, to feed their curiosity, for peer learning and to inspire ideas for literacy while supporting our writing genre - Narrative.
Listening to podcasts such as Storynory, can help the development of comprehension skills, listening skills, retelling, sequencing, engagement and imagination and can enhance the children's literacy skills in grasping comprehension, language and grammar, while developing a broader range of vocabulary. We hope the listening / audio story stations will inspire the children as well as offering a relaxed environment by listening to interesting stories. We are excited to hear even more free writing story shares from the children through the month of June.

Sowing the Seed
Our children will take wings one day,
to fly the nest and go.
Like seeds, to sail the winds of life,
And scatter to and fro.
We pray that these, our precious seeds,
Who scatter from our hand,
find fertile soil, prepared by God,
To blossom where they land.

Autumn Term 2019
A big Thank you to all the pupils of 1st and 2nd class who brought in Aldi stickers
Working hard to Get Nominations for our student council!
End of year ice cream party!
We have a jar of pom poms in our classroom that we call our 'Warm Fuzzies'. We start off with an empty jar, and everytime someone does something kind, the class earn a Fuzzy for their jar. When the jar is full, we get a special treat! This term's well-earned treat was an ice-cream party on the last day of the school year. There was great excitement and it was a lovely way to end the school year and thank the children for all their hard work. Wishing everyone in 1st and 2nd Class a wonderful, fun, safe and happy Summer Holiday 2019! :-)
Growing vegetables 2019!
We had great fun and learned a lot planting our own herbs and vegetables this Spring. We planted so many different things, from basil to potatoes! We are patiently waiting for our potatoes to be ready for harvesting and we hope to make a tasty vegetable soup from some of our vegetables such as our carrots and turnips once they are ready to eat!
Our First communion class 2019!
On Saturday 18th May 2019 the pupils from 2nd Class celebrated their First Holy Communion. They put so much work into their prayers, readings, jobs, artwork and overall preparation for the day. Well done to each and every one of you, you all did a fantastic job!
STEAM: Making a marble run!
We had a blast doing this Science project. We worked in groups to create fun marble runs! We used recycled materials that we had collected from home. We used skills such as teamwork, designing, planning, problem-solving, goal-setting, compromise, memory and recall, decision making, creativity and flexibility!
eASTER EGG HUNT 2019!
World book day fun 2019
World Book Day and Book Week 2019 were a great success. One of our favourite times of the year, we had so many fun activities to celebrate our love of books! We dressed up as our favourite book characters, we went on a Bear Hunt, we recreated the story of 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt' using body percussion and musical instruments, we made character profiles, author profiles, watched book read-alouds, learned about our favourite authors, listened to audiobooks, did our own book reviews, did Drop Everything And Read, to name just a few!!! We really love books!!!
sCIENCE: MAKING BUTTER!
We had great fun making our own home-made butter in class recently. We found out that we only needed one ingredient to make tasty butter-just double cream!!! We put it in a jar and we took turns shaking the jar until the butter was ready to eat! We ate our yummy butter on hot cross buns-delicious!!! We also learned all about dairy farming and all about where our milk and cream comes from. We looked at how butter was churned in the past and compared modern and traditional farming methods.
Christmas panto and fire station trip!
On Monday December 3rd, we were delighted to go on a school trip to the Panto in Drogheda, followed by a private tour of Ardee Fire Station! What a great day we had! The Panto was called Elfie Saves Christmas, in the Barbican Theatre, Drogheda. It was great fun to see such a professional production, and we thoroughly enjoyed the songs and interaction with the characters!
Afterwards, we travelled back to Ardee Fire Station, where firefighters Liam and Neil gave us a tour of the fire station, and taught us all about the job of a firefighter. Every child was given the opportunity to sit in the driver's seat of the fire engine, and they showed us all the special tools the fire engine had. Mrs. Allen had to dress up as a firefighter and every child also got the chance to hold the fire hose and spray it at Mrs. Allen!!! That was great fun! We thank our Parent Association for covering the cost of the bus for this trip. We had a great day!

HALLOWEEN 2018
Wow, what spooky goings-on we had in our class this Halloween!!! We made freaky Frankensteins in art, we had a Halloween party (which we earned through our Warm Fuzzies jar for excellent behaviour!!!) and we dressed up as all sorts of spooky and amazing creatures!!!
SCIENCE WEEK 2018!
Wow, what an exciting week we had for Science Week 2018!! Our fantastic Parent Association funded a workshop from W5 in Belfast. The scientists from 25 visited our school and put on a brilliant show with lots of exciting experiments on topics from centrifugal force to gravity to chemical reactions!! We were also very lucky to have a visit from Bridget Kelly, a talented science lecturer in DKIT, who also did fun experiments with yeast and balloons and taught us all about the importance of protecting bees. Throughout the week we also did fun experiments in class, including Rainbow skittles, making moon dust, magic milk, and creating our own rocket! We completed Learning Logs about all our fun scientific activities and experiments. We love science!
Having fun learning about homes in the past!
autumn scavenger hunt!
We had a very successful Autumn Scavenger Hunt around our school grounds. We learned lots about nature all around us in Autumn, from native Irish birds and trees, to berries and hibernating animals. We love Autumn!
Maths week 2018 outdoor maths trail
We had great fun outside on our Outdoor Maths Trail. Huge thanks to Ms. Judge for organising it for us. It was a really interesting and fun lesson!
STORYTELLING WORKSHOP
On Friday, October 12th 2018, Tríona from the Droichead Arts Centre visited our class and gave us a Storytelling workshop. She told us a fantastic story about a fairy named Fionn and a little girl named Fianna, which she had written herself. She told the story to us both as Gaeilge and in English. We even got to perform the story afterwards. We have been learning all about storytelling in our Oral Language lessons recently so we are very grateful to Droichead Arts Centre for the visit!

We had great fun on book week. We had a book fair in the school. We bought lots of books and got new books for our classroom. We drew the cover of our favourite book. We wrote a review of our favourite book too. On World Book Day we dressed at our favourite character from a book. Can you guess who we are?
Happy Grandparents day
February was Catholic Schools Week. As part of this week we invited our grandparents into our school. It was lovely to see them in school. We had a prayer service for them. We sang our songs. We read the prayers. Then we had a treat and the grandparents had tea and buns. We loved having them in school and hope they will come again. We wrote about our grandparents and put it up on display outside our classroom. Thank you for coming, Granny and Granddad.
Science
We are learning about light. Look how the sun made and changed the shadows with a bottle. We went outside to record this every hour. The shadow moved and became smaller.
Land yachts
We learned about forces this year. We made land yachts. The wind moved them. Some moved with a gentle wind but some were too heavy so we had to wait for a windy day to try our test again.
|
WorkshopWe were busy watching the eggs hatch in Spring. Look at the lovely chicks. We saw the chick break the shell and come out. It was very exciting. We even got to hold the chicks. They were lovely. We loved this workshop and thanks to the Parent Association for sponsoring it. Find the picture of the chick breaking its shell!!
|
Percussion instruments
We are learning about sound. We went outside on a sound walk. We listened for loud sounds and soft , gentle noises. We made our own percussion instruments and made plenty of sounds in our classroom.
Lego workshop
We had a great time at the Lego workshop. We build lots of things. We worked together. This was a great way to welcome us back to school after the Christmas holidays. Thanks again to the Parent Association for fundraising for this great activity.
coming to school in pyjamas!!!
P.E.
We love to play with the parachute. We had fun trying to keep the ball on it. It took lots of skill and teamwork. We even hid under the parachute.!!
School tour 2016
We love to go on our school tour. This year we went Causey Farm. Look at the fun we had. The Second Class got very dirty doing the bog jump but they enjoyed it.
Táin Trail and History
This year in our history we heard the story of the Brown Bull of Cooley. In June our school took part in the Táin Trail March. We met Queen Maeve. We dressed up as warriors. We painted swords and made shields. We sang the chant. We will remember the story of the Brown Bull of Cooley.
the national flag
In September the army came to our school. They presented us with the National Flag and the Proclamation. First, Second, Third, Fourth, Fifth and Sixth Class came to our room for the presentation. We wrote about it in our recount writing.
2014-2015
Maths
Here are two of our maths displays from this year. We love maths trails. Look at us on our maths trail
Art
We also love art and we are great artists. Take a look at some of our work. We made paper chains before Christmas for the residents of Moorehall Lodge, Ardee. They loved them.
Christmas play 2014 - baubles
Our Christmas play was called Baubles. We had great fun acting and dressing up. We performed our play for our parents. Then we enjoyed a treat from the Parents Association.
workshops
We took part in two workshops this year. One was with Finn, the potter. we made monsters!! Then we took part in the Dig It workshop. we build bridges and discovered how water flows through pipes. We tried it first with marbles. They were great fun and we enjoyed them.
classroom displays
Social, environmental and scientific education (history, geography and science)
In history we made our own timeline from the day we were born up to the present day. In geography, we made a map of our classroom in groups. it was great fun. We had to count all the tables, doors, windows and presses. Then we had to put them in the correct place on the map. It was tricky but we made great plans. In science, we were looking at how materials change. We got butter and sugar. We mixed them together with some eggs and flour. We put the mixture into bun cases. Teacher baked them and we ate all the delicious buns!! We also planted marigold seeds and took them home when we put them into bigger pots.
2013-2014
During the first school term we had the opportunity to have Gaelic football training for 10 weeks. We had great fun with Bríona Ryan & Peter. We learned how to solo, kick accurately; toe the ball, we also learned how to warm up our muscles. Something new for us was that we had to wear mouth guards- teacher said they would be great for class as we couldn’t talk with them !!! We looked really funny too!! The best part was that everyone got to take part even if they never played before.
Halloween dress up - On Friday, October 28th we wore our Halloween costumes to school. There were witches, monsters, devils, ghosts, zombies, TV characters and even the Grim Reaper was spotted in 1st & 2nd Class that day. We had great fun showing off our costumes and talking about them.
As part of our link with the residents of Suaimhneas at Moorehall Lodge we made paper chains to decorate their “home” for Christmas. These are the decorations the residents remember making from their childhood and the tradition of making paper chains has now been past on to our children. In appreciation our friends in Suaimhneas sent us a lovely card and some candy canes. The children enjoyed them thoroughly needless to say!!!!
Our Christmas Concert took place on December 19th 2013. Our play was called “Follow the Star” We put on a great performance and all our hard work paid off. We are very proud of ourselves! We think we have the X factor and you never know you might see a few of us on “The Voice of Ireland” in the not too distant future. Some of us have plans to star in the Gaiety Theatre ….can you guess who?????
What else have we been up to?
* Catholic schools week- this year we talked a lot about our faith in class. We learned that after Mass has ended we need to bring our faith with us into our lives at home and at school. We each took a task to do or an attitude to have for the week to help announce the Gospel. We looked at the signs and symbols of our faith and presented some of them to the rest of the school at a Friday assembly when we also told the gospel story of the Good Shepherd in a very special way.
* Buddy Reading- This year we all are taking part in a Buddy reading programme. We really love this because we get to read to others and others listen to us reading.

"Do you remember what happened yesterday at school?" A man called Niall brought in some birds of prey. There was a Peregrine Falcon called Flash, a Barn Owl called Noddy and a Long Eared Owl named Bella. Flash and Noddy pooed in the classroom! They were all in boxes before they came into our classroom. We all got to pet the birds of prey. Neill told us about them and answered our questions. Miss Malone even held one. It was a great day.

We designed Easter Bonnets !!!
Our teacher set us a very difficult piece of homework just before our Easter holidays.....we had to design and make an Easter Bonnet. At first we hadn't a notion what a bonnet was but then Miss Malone explained it to us and showed us some ideas for designs. Here are the finished results. We looked great and teacher was very proud of us and our efforts.
