Newgrange Farm
we had so much fun visiting Newgrange Farm. We got to meet puppies, kittens, chicks and even feed lambs. We also got active in their sand area and had super fun in their water area. It was an amazing day!
Run Around Ireland (PA)
As part of out challenge we will all be encouraged to run, walk or roll to all the different landmark sights of Ireland. We have calculated 1 lap = 1km at school. Make sure to try and reach as many landmarks as you can. We can't wait to hear about where you all visited.
Everest
Best of luck to Miss Grace on hiking to Everest Base Camp. The whole school is behind you and we know you will do us proud. Sixth class came up with an amazing idea, hanging our school crest at the top. We cannot wait to hear all about your adventure :-)
Miss Grace is so excited to visit all classrooms on her return to inspire children to work hard to follow their dreams.

UPDATE
We take a moment to thank The Active School Committee for their continued hard work this term.
They have made sure all our outdoor play boxes are full of wonderful equipment. They have encouraged all classes in running/walking the Daily Mile walk as well as helped at our Céilí Mór for our Lá Glás. Every class has also got lovely posters for active breaks inside when we cannot get outside due to inclement weather. In the mornings or after break times our committee are busy leading active movement as we join our lines to return to class. We have made great use of our new portable speaker which our Parent Association purchased for our school. Many thanks to everyone for keeping our school an active school. We look forward to the many activities they have planned for us in Term 3.

Easter Egg Hunt (PA)
The active school committee have been very busy setting up our Easter Egg Hunt. They put together all the clues and hid them around the school. All the children had to figure out the clues and find the hidden spots. When they found them, there was an active challenge for all to complete. They worked together in teams and were rewarded with a little Easter egg. It was great fun and had us all excited for the Easter holidays.
lA GLAS (PE & PA)
Lá Glás
Following closely after World Book Dress Up Day we had our Lá Glás. Here
we celebrate the coming of St. Patrick’s Day and also Seachtain na Gaeilge. We
have a long tradition of having some Irish dance and Irish songs and poems etc on
that day. This year was no exception. All the classes learned the dance Shoe the
Donkey and all the classes danced away to it. Later in the day, the school came
together again and we listened and watched as each class performed an Irish
poem or song or played the tin whistle. Bhí na daltaí ar fheabhas. Um tráthnóna
bhí cluiche Bingo ag na daltaí ó Rang a 3 go Rang a Sé as gaeilge. Bhí spóirt and
craic againn.

PE
Our Active Committee came up with a super idea, of joining classrooms together for P.E. We love student voices here at Newtown NS so we got busy joining the classrooms together. Junior and Senior Infants joined with our 3rd and 4th class and did parachute games and playground games. Fifth and Six class along with First and Second class participated in Hockey and Hurling. The children had a great time teaching each other, learning new skills and getting the opportunity to mix and have fun playing different sports.
Active Line Leaders (PA)
The Active School Flag committee have set up " play ground buddies and Active line Leaders. Have a look out for their green vests in the yard. Make sure if you need help to go to one of there friendly committee members. They are always there to help :)
jINGLE bELL rUN (PE &PA)
On a chilly Winters afternoon we managed to grab our Santa hats and head out on our Jingle Bell walk/run. It was fantastic fun, pumping the Christmas tunes, putting on the wellies and singing with all our friends. It really got us into the Christmas spirit.

nEWTOWN N.S. ACTIVE SCHOOLS FLAG PROGRAMME!
Newtown Active Schools week 2019
we have been awarded the active flag!
We are delighted to announce that we have been awarded the Active Schools Flag! We will be having our flag raising ceremony very soon and will post pictures of the event as soon as possible! Many thanks to everyone who helped us in our efforts in this worthwhile programme! :-) _
We are working hard towards our Active Schools Flag! Our school community has been busy making improvements and introducing lots of new physical activity! Here are just a few of the things we have done so far!
We are proud to participate in the Active Schools Programme and we thank all our Pupils, Parents, Staff, and members of our local community for all their help and support!
- Annual Active Schools Week! This is now an annual event in our school's calendar. Our Active Schools Week takes place in late June every year. We hold a range of fun events to promote physical activity in our whole school community. Previous events have included a Fun Run, a Gaelic blitz in Syddan GFC, Sports/Fun Day, parachute games, dance competitions, in-school soccer leagues, Camogie and Hurling blitz, Bizzy Breaks, Physical Activity Logbooks, poster competitions and sports-related guest speakers including Meath star Joe Sheridan and representatives from Drogheda Utd. We are busy planning and preparing for Active Schools Week 2014 which takes place from June 16th-20th. Watch this space for more details and pics!
- Cycling Safety initiative! We have introduced a new Cycle to School Policy, installed a new bike rack, and welcomed Meath Local Sports Partnership's Cycling Safety lessons for all children in 3rd- 6th Class. We encourage children as much as is safely possible, to walk or cycle to school.
- Extra-Curricular Activities! We currently participate in inter-schools tournaments and blitzes in Gaelic and Tag-Rugby. Children from 3rd-6th participate in Hurling and Camogie courtesy of Ms. McKeon. Children in 1st & 2nd Class take part in the Be Active After School Activity Programme also. We are very lucky to have such great support from our local GAA club, Syddan GFC, who help us out with buses to matches and provide an excellent coach to train every child from Junior Infants to 6th Class.
- Lunchtime Play Boxes! We introduced these boxes, full of different games and fun things to play with at breaks. This is to encourage the children to be active at lunch breaks. Our PA kindly donated new equipment to our school last year which has added to the lunchtime fun!
- Integration with other curricular areas! Social, Personal & Health Education: Bike Safety, Road Safety, Healthy Eating awareness and education. Music: Dance Gaeilge: Céilí dancing, set dancing. Art: Poster competitions.
We are proud to participate in the Active Schools Programme and we thank all our Pupils, Parents, Staff, and members of our local community for all their help and support!
